Alliance, OH is explained in depth in Tony Hills Railfan Pages. Click the ‘back” button to come back here. We were disappointed at the lack of traffic. Rumor has it that Norfolk Southern has 20,000 cars that they don’t know where they should go sitting at Conway PA. In one hour and 30 minutes all we saw at Alliance were 4 light engines moving west towards Canton, and Amtrak’s Pennsylvania headed toward Cleveland (an at least an hour late.)

NS westbound
light engine move passes the Alliance OH Amtrak Station lead by CR 8227
CR 8227 “hits
the diamonds” at Alliance. Track to the
left goes to Mingo Jct OH (near Steubenville)
Amtrak 40
brings the westbound “Pennsylvanian” into Alliance.
The
“Pennsylvanian” takes the curve leading to the line to Cleveland, OH
Bringing up the
rear of todays “Pennsylvanian” are three “Road Railers”, the last is a NS
Triple Crown.
Leaving the
NS/Amtrak complex at Alliance, there is a “Buckeye” rail crossing device
guarding the Mingo Creek line.
This device is attached to the vertical post below the crossbucks. It was invented by an Ohio man to reduce the number of grade crossing accidents
It is a sheet of metal, covered with reflective material, and bent at angles to reflect an oncoming trains lights. Why hasn’t this device been adopted for use nation-wide?
Thanks for coming along for our visit to Alliance. Someday when NS get things sorted out, we will return for some real rail-fan action.
